NYRR 5-Borough Series: Manhattan Half-Marathon

The 2012 NYRR 5-Borough Series began at the Manhattan Half-Marathon in the spectacular winter wonderland of Central Park. For safety reasons, NYRR officials (in consultation with NYC Parks & Recreation) declared the event an unscored, non-competitive run—no clocks, no official results. All registered entrants (whether they ran or not) who are members of NYRR received 9+1 marathon qualifying credit and 4/5 NYC Half 2013 qualifying credit. Those who chose to brave the elements felt well rewarded. "I'm getting my volunteer credit today!" said volunteer Craig Wells as he marshaled the course at the top of Cat Hill. "I'm thrilled I did it! It was really hard but fun," said Dana Weinstein of Manhattan, after completing her 13.1 in a zippy 1:41. It's likely, though, that a post-run hot shower never felt so good. The 5-Borough Series will continue in Brooklyn in May—stay tuned for exciting details!
