It was a sea of Big Blue (with a few ripples of New England navy) as more than 6,000 runners lined up for the 21st annual NYRR Gridiron Classic and Longest Football Throw Competition on a crisp Super Bowl Sunday morning in Central Park. The Classic is always a highly anticipated event, but with the hometown Giants set to take on the New England Patriots in the big game, this year's edition had an extra special air of excitement, as many runners hoped that their Super Bowl adrenaline would fuel fast times. Before the race, runners lined up to channel their inner Eli at the Longest Football Throw Competition, which was won by Phil Tarantino of Cos Cob, CT, on a 58-year bomb.
