| June 1, 2011 People all across the country celebrated National Running Day on June 1, but even the most dedicated grown-up runners would have been hard pressed to match the energy and enthusiasm shown by NYRR Mighty Milers during their Fun Run at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York. Some 2,000 schoolchildren, along with world-class runners Kim Smith and Molly Huddle, were on hand to run, run, and run some more—sprints, relays, distance events, hurdles, and an obstacle courses. There was even a tug-of-war and a parachute toss. The kids proudly wore their colors for the Parade of Schools. And after crossing the finish line, they rounded out the day's events with a Hip-Hop Cool-Down, cold drinks, and smiles. Smith, who holds multiple New Zealand records, announced that she'll run the ING New York City Marathon 2011 on November 6; Huddle will take part in the NYRR 5K, also on Marathon Weekend. Running alongside the Mighty Milers, both women encouraged the kids to follow their dreams to the finish line.
