| October 1, 2011 The Norwegian Festival is much more than a running event, just as Grete Waitz was much more than a runner. This year's festival included Norwegian-flag temporary tattoos, face-painting, balloon animals, Norwegian-style waffles, and a facts-about-Norway trivia game for prizes. Many of the 6,540 finishers of the Grete's Great Gallop half-marathon and the 1.7-mile Norway Run--and their friends and families--stayed to learn something about a faraway place, and to take a moment to remember a Norwegian whose grace as an athlete and gracious nature endeared her to New Yorkers forever. |
