| December 11, 2011 After years of rainy conditions for this event, hundreds of faithful runners got a treat in Van Cortlandt Park on December 11: Perfect conditions for a cross country run—sunny, calm, and 35 degrees. Pete McArdle was a native of Ireland who became a top NYC-area distance runner in the early 1960s. He won the 10,000m gold medal at the 1963 Pan American Games and later coached many local runners; he passed away in 1985. |
