New York runners don't avoid cold races--they just add another layer. Participants in the NYRR Manhattan Half-Marathon brought out their serious winter gear for this very chilly occasion. The city and the Parks Department did a great job of clearing the road after yet another in a series of snowstorms blanketed the course less than a day before the 8:00 a.m. start; the Central Park loop drive was clear enough to allow unimpeded racing conditions for thousands of dedicated runners--who then achieved very quick post-race times for getting inside and consuming warm beverages.
