| January 9, 2010 Nearly 2,400 runners braved the cold on Sunday, January 9, at the Fred Lebow Classic 5-Mile as NYRR kicked off the 2011 racing season. The race, postponed one day due to snowy conditions, honored the memory of the visionary New York City Marathon co-founder and longtime NYRR president Lebow, who died in 1994. The competition was hot at the front of the pack as John Henwood edged Dereje Tesfaye Hailegiorgis and 16-year-old Edward Cheseret; all three were timed in 25:09. Katarina Janosikova, who represents Henwood's Hounds, took the women's title in 29:08. There's lots more exciting winter road racing ahead; next up is the Manhattan Half-Marathon on January 22.
