| October 16, 2011 If you ran high school or college cross country and miss the thrill of those tough, hilly races with the nip of autumn in the air, remember: It doesn't have to be a thing of the past. The Kurt Steiner Cross Country Classic, one of five NYRR cross country events to be held in Van Cortlandt Park this fall and winter, took place on Sunday, October 16, in ideal distance-running temperature (56 degrees) but perhaps less-than-ideal wind speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. The winners among a field of 360 finishers (157 women, 203 men) were Caroline Lefrak (17:40) and Francis Corrigan (16:14) both of whom represent the New York Athletic Club. The next cross-country race will be the Fred Lebow Cross Country Championships (also 5K) on November 20. |
