March 26, 2011

More than 2,000 boys and girls ages 4 to 15 were on hand at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory to run, jump, and throw in a day of active fun. The numbers and the enthusiasm made this one of the largest and most energetic Jamborees ever! The morning events, for kids age 10 and under, included 55 meters, 200 meters, long jump, shot put, relays, and a 55-meter dash just for 4-year-olds. In the afternoon, youths ages 11 to 15 enjoyed the same events plus a 400-meter run and a special invitational 800-meter run 10- to 12-year-olds.

The event was also a chance for families to learn about wellness opportunities throughout NYC: New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital oversaw a health fair, and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and the YMCA of Greater New York shared information about summer programs. In addition, one track program for each of the five boroughs was on hand to talk about their program to children and their families.
