On Friday, November 5, some 2,800 runners at the inaugural NYRR 5 enjoyed a beautiful morning run in Central Park. For some, it was a chance to see the finish line before Sunday's race; for others, it was an opportunity to be part of Marathon Weekend without running 26.2; and for many local runners, it was their morning run before work. "I wanted to do something fun and get a good run in this weekend while I'm here with my wife, who's running the marathon," said Brian Bulkowski of Wisconsin. "It was a great race and lots of fun." Adding to the excitement was the ING New York City Marathon 2011 drawing of five names for guaranteed entry, which went to one United Kingdom resident, a Californian, a Hungarian national, and two New Yorkers.
