West Side Runners men and Central Park TC women take team titles
Top chef and triathlon enthusiast Rocco DiSpirito sounded the starting horn at 9:00 a.m. to send 2,181 men onto the course for the Fitness Mind, Body, Spirit Games four-mile, a NYRR team points event. A women’s field of 2,956 runners followed one hour later. The clear, cool weather produced excellent performances. Bado Worku Merdessa of West Side Runners took top men’s honors in a time of 19:08—and his team extended their season lead as well, ahead of Central Park Track Club New Balance (CPTC) and the New York Athletic Club (NYAC). The CPTC women upset season leaders NYAC, despite Jane Maxwell of NYAC’s win in a time of 22:45.
