The nearly 4,000 runners who lined up for the Dash & Splash 10K on a sticky Saturday morning had a little more incentive than usual to power through to the finish line: the promise of a soothing dip in the pool afterward. That's right—the annual NYRR event has participants work up a good sweat with a 6.2-mile loop of Central Park—the Dash—and then rewards them with the Splash: a refreshing post-race plunge in Lasker Pool, just a short walk from the finish and reserved exclusively for NYRR runners until 11 a.m. Despite the heat and humidity, the Dash portion of the morning's activities went swimmingly, with Genna Tufa taking the men's race in 31:10 and Catherine Mullen cruising to a 35:50 win on the women's side. The Splash wasn't a letdown, either. Droves of runners ages 12 to 86 descended upon Lasker Pool, kicked off their shoes, and cooled their overheating engines by diving, jumping, and—if they had the energy—cannonballing into summertime bliss.
