Founded in 1972, the “Mini” is the original women-only road race. At this year’s 38th running, held on a sparkling morning in Central Park, nearly 6,000 women of all ages and fitness levels once again made history as they celebrated their health, strength, and solidarity.

The Mini brought together old friends and offered opportunities to make new ones.

Members of local running teams lined up together at the start.

NYRR Foundation Mighty Milers kids welcomed world-class runners, including Deena Kastor.

The youngsters held their cheersticks to form a “tunnel of kids” for the top entrants.

This special introduction reminded the stars that their efforts inspire the next generation.

Professional runners from around the world bolted from the starting line near Columbus Circle.

Ann Singer, 65, of Suffern, NY, got into a groove as the race proceeded up Central Park West.

The first mile and a half of the course is a shaded straightaway.

Kenya’s Rose Kosgei won in 32:43 as women’s running pioneer Nina Kuscsik (left) held the tape.

Kristel Farrand of Brooklyn posted a 50:19 finish time.

Kosgei clutched the Kenyan flag as she accepted congratulations from fans.

U.S. Olympian Deena Kastor ran with NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg to avoid aggravating a minor foot injury; they finished in 43:46.

Friends young, old, and in-between celebrated sisterhood at the Mini.

A longtime Mini tradition is a flower for each and every finisher.

The glow of health, fitness, and accomplishment was everywhere in the post-finish area.

These four women traveled from Gothenburg, Sweden, to run.

Wittenberg congratulated third-place finisher Hirut Mandefro, Kosgei, and runner-up Selena Burla (left to right).

Raffle prizes included a trip to the June 20 Shelter Island 10K, presented by Janelle Kraus (left) and Mary Ellen Adipietro (right).

Fourth-place Catherine Ndereba (left) and five-time Mini champ Tegla Loroupe posed with a fan.

Hooray for the Mini!
