NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Staten Island

In the final race of the 2008 NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines series, runners on Staten Island showed off their fall fitness. Over 13.1 miles past the ING New York City Marathon start at Fort Wadsworth and back, they strutted their stuff on an unusually warm October morning.

Runners had a gorgeous view of Manhattan as they stretched on race morning.


The Rabbits of NYRR Foundation’s Team for Kids met as a unified group and many ran the race.


Korean Marathon Club members met early to plan race strategies.


Staten Island spectators were out in full force with signs and cowbells.


The masses—more than 3,600 runners—were off at 9:40 a.m.


Runners dug out their summer running gear for this warm-weather race.


At mile 13, there was nothing stopping these folks!


The view of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge hinted of the ING New York City Marathon just around the corner.


Glen Parrish of the Bronx finished in 2:16:50.


Mariana Silva of Manhattan held off the two-hour mark in 1:56:41.


Jersey City was well represented by Shaunak Amin, who finished in 2:40:51.


Brooklyn’s Tina Young crossed the finish line in 2:06:16.


Christine Glockenmeier of the Warren Street Social and Athletic Club broke the tape for the women in 1:23:56.


Westchester Track Club’s Kassahun Kabiso was the first male finisher in 1:08:03.


Taylor Delhagen, 23, of the Brooklyn Road Runner’s Club was first in his age group in 1:12:34.


Stoyan Atanassov of Manhattan finished in 1:29:16.


Kieran O’Neill received the Fire Lieutenant Victor J. Navarra FDNY Family of Champions Staten Island Half-Marathon Trophy from Kristie Navarra.


These New York Harriers finished the Staten Island race along with 11 other teammates.


Oren Abramowitz finished in just over two hours and brought the whole family along for a wonderful day.


Finisher Annamarie Manolias from Yonkers and her family loved the Staten Island snacks!
