F.A.Q.'s
The NYC Half 2012 race date is Sunday, March 18.
Q. What was the application period for the NYC Half 2012?
A. The application was open from December 5 through December 19, 2011, for non-guaranteed entry and guaranteed entry with a qualifying time or having run four of the five races in the 2011 NYRR Half-Marathon Series (NYRR members only). Limited entries remain available through an International Travel Partner in certain countries, our official National Travel Partner (Anthony Travel, Inc.), and official NYRR charities.
Q. Why was this application period shorter than it was last year?
A. Due to delays in finalizing the race details with NYC agencies and our desire to complete registration before the December holidays, it was necessary to shorten the application period.
Q. How many people were accepted to run the race?
A. Working closely with NYC agency partners, we were able to expand the field to 15,000 runners and offer a new finish and post-race festival at South Street Seaport. The field consists of non-guaranteed entrants drawn from three categories (NYC-metro area, national and international) and guaranteed entrants from five groups: charity entrants, entrants who qualify with a fast time, entrants through an International Travel Partner, entrants through our official National Travel Partner (Anthony Travel, Inc.), and entrants who are NYRR members who ran four of the five NYRR Half-Marathons in 2011.
Q. What is the entry fee this year?
A. The entry fee for the NYC Half 2012 is $117 for NYRR members and $128 for non-members.
Q. Why are these fees higher than last year?
A. Operating costs that significantly affect the race -- like gas, insurance, and bridge tolls -- continue to rise, which increases the cost of doing business in the world's greatest city for running. In addition, our race fee increased due to increased city agency fees, which are required to maintain our world-class standards in safety and quality.
Q. Will the four-out-of-five NYRR 5-Borough Series guaranteed-entry program be in place for the NYC Half 2013?
A. Yes, this program will provide a way for NYRR members to guarantee their entry to the NYC Half 2013: Any member of NYRR as of January 31, 2012, who completes four of our five NYRR 5-Borough Series races in 2012 (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island), and is still a member of NYRR at the end of 2012 will be eligible for guaranteed entry to the 2013 NYC Half.
Q. Is there an NYRR training program for the NYC Half 2012?
A. Yes! Please visit the Training Program page for information. The 10-week program is available for purchase and begins January 9.
The 2011 NYC Half-Marathon had more than 10,000 finishers.
