Eventual winner Kassahun Kabiso (center) of the Westchester Track Club (WTC) and second-placer Robert Cannon (right) of Toms River, NY, cruise in the lead pack. |

Kabiso, a 2:14 marathoner, was all alone in the later stages; hot, humid conditions slowed times considerably. |

Tuning up for the ING New York City Marathon, Kabiso breaks the tape in 1:09:01—a 5:16-per-mile pace. His lead had stretched to 42 seconds by the end of the race. |

Robert Cannon looks relaxed on his way to a second-place 1:09:43. |

Joel Martinez-Delon of West Side Runners (WSX) closed well to take third in 1:11:13, leading his team to a narrow victory over the Nike Central Park Track Club (CPTC), 44 points to 62. |

Esteban Vanegas of WSX, a sub-2:30 marathoner, ran 1:12:11 for fourth place. His team extended its lead over CPTC in the NYRR team points standings to 112-95. |

Jacek Boral of the Polish Runners Club was fifth in 1:12:28—excellent time in the muggy heat on the hilly Central Park course. |

Jorge Pardo of Urban Athletics (UATH) was not caught by the ominous chase pack in the background. He took sixth in 1:12:54. |
Edwin Sena-Duran (5967), 21st, and Christopher Stewart (5968), 17th, contributed to UATH’s fourth-place finish. William Knowlton (6629) was 19th; Stephane Bois (in blue) was 25th—and second in the 40-44 age-group.

Freddy Almonte scored for his winning WSX team with his seventh-place finish in 1:13:02. |

Juan Almonte of the Bronx—unattached to any team, but possibly attached to Freddy—took ninth in 1:14:05. |

CPTC’s Dan Seidel ran 1:14:37, good for 10th place, in his first-ever half-marathon. |

T. Patrick Hynes led the Greater New York Racing Team to a third-place finish with his 11th-place 1:14:46. |

Ponciano Ramirez of WSX sprinted hard and was rewarded with a sub-1:15 finish; his 1:14:50 garnered 12th place. |

Jason Ostenson of CPTC fought for every second of his 1:15:10. He took 13th place. |

Russ Pfeffer of CPTC looks cool even in the heat. His 1:15:24 came only two weeks after a 1:13:08 in Philadelphia. |

Phillip Sneller led his Hellgate Road Runners team with a 1:16:40 in 20th place. |

Alan Ruben (3799) of CPTC won the 50-54 age-group—and the age-graded overall victory—with his 1:17:59. His teammate Neil Brenner ran 1:17:40 for 27th place. |
Hot harriers from all over: Luis Trias (4444), Mark Dodson (5295), and Julian Triscott (4447) of the New York Harriers worked together; Hernan Lopez (2635) of the Hoboken Harriers hangs on.

Carl Selya-Hammer of the Brooklyn Road Runners Club makes a sub-1:30 half-marathon (1:28:55) look much too easy. |
